TV Remote

Support

Email support@gettvremote.com and a human reads it. Say what TV you're trying to connect and add a screenshot if you can — that's usually enough to settle it in one reply.

Connecting a TV

Roku

  1. Make sure your iPhone and your Roku are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open TV Remote and tap Find TV. Allow Local Network access when iOS asks.
  3. Pick your Roku from the results, or tap Add by IP if you know its address.
  4. If a button is refused, press Home on the Roku and open Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Control by mobile apps (called External control on some models), and set Network access to Default or Enabled.

Fire TV (Fire OS)

  1. On the Fire TV: Settings > My Fire TV > Developer options. If you don't see Developer options, open Settings > My Fire TV > About and select your Fire TV's name 7 times to reveal it.
  2. Turn on ADB debugging.
  3. In the app, find and select your Fire TV. The first connection shows a prompt on the TV screen asking to allow this app — select Allow.
  4. Fire TV Stick models on Amazon's Vega OS aren't supported in this version — they don't have the ADB debugging setting this app needs.

Google TV and Android TV · New

  1. Make sure your iPhone and your TV are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open TV Remote and tap Find TV, or add it by IP address. Nothing needs to be turned on first.
  3. Pick your TV. The first time, it shows a code on screen — type that code into this iPhone.

New in this version and not yet confirmed on every model. If something doesn't work on your TV, tell us and we'll look into it.

Samsung · New

  1. Make sure your iPhone and your Samsung TV are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open TV Remote and tap Find TV, or add it by IP address.
  3. Pick your TV, then choose Allow on the TV.
  4. If it asks every time, open Device Connection Manager in the TV's settings and set Access Notification to First Time Only.

Samsung TVs from 2016 onward are supported; 2014-2015 models aren't. The Power button turns the TV off; from standby it may turn it back on, and if it doesn't, use the TV's own remote. New in this version and not yet confirmed on every model — if something doesn't work on your TV, tell us and we'll look into it.

LG (webOS) · New

  1. Make sure your iPhone and your LG TV are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. On the TV, turn on LG Connect Apps in the network settings.
  3. Open TV Remote, choose your TV, and accept the request on the TV.

The Power button turns the TV off; turn it on again with the TV's own remote. New in this version and not yet confirmed on every model — if something doesn't work on your TV, tell us and we'll look into it.

Vizio (SmartCast) · New

  1. Make sure your iPhone and your Vizio TV are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open TV Remote and tap Find TV, or add it by IP address.
  3. Pick your TV. It shows a PIN on screen — type that PIN into this iPhone.

New in this version and not yet confirmed on every model. If something doesn't work on your TV, tell us and we'll look into it.

Not supported

Fire TV models on Amazon's Vega OS (for example, Fire TV Stick 4K Select) and Samsung TVs from 2014-2015 aren't supported. Apple TV doesn't need this app — your iPhone already has an Apple TV remote in Control Center.

Local Network permission

The first time you look for a TV, iOS asks to let TV Remote find devices on your local network. This is required — it's the only way the app can see or talk to a TV on your Wi-Fi, and it's never used for anything else. If you tapped Don't Allow, or want to check it: iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network, and turn on the switch for TV Remote.

Troubleshooting

The app can't find my TV

A button doesn't do anything

The TV may not support that command — the app disables keys a device can't do rather than send them anyway. On Roku, volume/mute and power-off only work on Roku TVs, or players that report they can control the TV's power and volume. On Fire TV, volume and mute depend on the TV's own HDMI-CEC support, and channel keys only work in live-TV apps that use them.

Fire TV is asking me to approve again

This can happen after a factory reset, a Fire OS update, or turning ADB debugging off and back on. Approve the prompt on the TV again; nothing you've set up is lost.

Subscriptions

What does Premium add?

Unlimited saved TVs, Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, Control Center buttons (iOS 18 and later), Siri/Shortcuts/Action Button, the swipe touchpad, keyboard text entry (Roku, Fire TV, Samsung and LG), extra keys (rewind, fast-forward and options, plus instant replay on Roku), and five more color themes with matching app icons. The free app always keeps one saved TV and the basic remote at no cost. Exact prices and any trial length are shown in the App Store before you buy.

How do I cancel?

Apple manages the subscription, not us: Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then TV Remote. Cancelling stops any future charge; you keep Premium until the end of the period you already paid for.

How do I get Premium back on a new phone?

Sign in to the same Apple Account on the new iPhone and tap Restore Purchases on the paywall, or in the app's Settings.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple under their policies, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Privacy

There's no account and no server of ours behind this app. Saved TVs and settings stay on your iPhone; pairing keys and TV tokens are kept in the iPhone's Keychain. Tokens go only to your TV's address on your own Wi-Fi, and private keys never leave the iPhone — see the privacy policy for the full detail.

Everything else

Does this work over cellular or away from home?

No. TV Remote only works over your local Wi-Fi network, the same one your TV is on.

Does TV Remote use infrared?

No. Modern iPhones have no infrared transmitter. TV Remote controls a supported TV over Wi-Fi only.

Does it work with Samsung or LG?

Yes — new in this version, alongside Google TV, Android TV and Vizio. See the device table on the home page for exactly what's supported today.
